Friday Fast Fact: Bushwick Residents' Top Complaint Is...

Complaint calls about loud neighbors was the top reason that Bushwick residents have called NYC 311 in the first half of 2018.

Feel like you can’t escape your noisy neighbors? You’re not alone.

According to data from 311, Bushwick residents most commonly call the city’s non-emergency hotline to complain about loud neighbors, with these complaints making up around 13 percent of all 311 calls placed so far in 2018.

After loud neighbors, the second and third top reasons Bushwick residents called were to report a lack of heat / hot water and to report a blocked driveway.

Noise may have been Bushwick’s biggest issue in the first half of the year, but, when looking at the entire borough of Brooklyn, the top concern was actually heat / hot water, which made up about just under 10 percent of all calls coming from the borough.

Data from 311 also gives us insight into specific buildings where residents might be having issues with their living conditions. The two addresses that received the most 311 complaints so far this year were 48 Jefferson Street (200 complaints) and 1073 Greene Avenue (135 complaints). These calls are about everything, from conditions of paint and plaster to issues with plumbing and electric.

Last year, we wrote about the insane number of complaints about 48 Jefferson Street. While total calls about the building has decreased almost 90 percent when compared to the same period last year, it’s still the most complained about address in the neighborhood. At 1073 Greene Avenue, the number of complaints has actually increased by 50 percent over last year.
