For all of the neighborhood coffee lovers who want to see their favorite morning libation at the center of a heated competition: boy, do we have some news for you.

Today, August 3, starting at 6 p.m. Lantern Hall and Space Craft Coffee will host the 2017 NYC Aeropress Championship.

“What is an Aeropress Championship?” you ask.

It’s a multi-round elimination competition, in which coffee enthusiasts showcase their java brewing skills in hopes to please a panel of judges in a blind taste test—a battle of the baristas, if you will. This year’s event is co-sponsored by Counter Culture Coffee

Competitors will make coffee using the AeroPress, a device for brewing coffee that’s kind of like a small french press with shorter brewing times that is supposed to yield espresso-strength coffee pushed through a paper or metal filter.

“Judges from the local specialty coffee community will determine the fate of 27 professional baristas, coffee enthusiasts and home baristas who will go head to head in a coffee-making competition with the champion winning a trip to Seattle to represent the NYC region in the US Aeropress Championships,” said a representative from Lantern Hall.

For all attendees and spectators of this epic Aeropress showdown, Lantern Hall and Space Craft will be raffling off swag and products from a smattering of Bushwick businesses. There will also be a DJ and a free beer keg giveaway.
