Bushwick Is Hosting a Free Minority and Women Business Procurement & Resource Expo

Learn the ropes of starting your small business!

Do you own a small business? Are you dreaming of a startup? Learn more about entrepreneurship, and network at the collaborative event, Minority Women Business Enterprises (MWBE) Procurement & Resource Expo. The free event will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Thursday, May 23, at BKLYN COMMONS’ Bushwick and Bed-Stuy location, located at 7 Marcus Garvey Blvd.

The first in a series of events planned throughout the year, this panel discussion and mixer will bring together procurement officers from various NYC agencies, CEOs and Executives from the private business sector. This event will provide opportunities to network, connect, and take advantage of contract opportunities, as well as  those seeking to become certified MWBE will have a chance to speak with agents who can assist with certification.

“As a member-based co-working space BKLYN Commons is proud to partner with Monroe Group, LLC on this community initiative,” said Laura Jean-Jacques, BKLYN Commons’ Director, Sales & Partnership, via their press release. “We fully support Minority Women Business Enterprises and look forward to providing opportunities for them to connect with resources and opportunities to sustain their businesses.”

A panel discussion will feature top executives from New York City Small Business Services, and seasoned MWBE representatives. Learn the best strategies for securing contracts, helpful practices for collaborating on bids, and how to request proposals. The evening will end with a networking mixer. Upcoming series events include Construction, Health Care & Human Services; The Tech Industry; Film, Media, Advertising & Entertainment; Legal & Accounting; and Youth & Education Services.

The Monroe Group, LLC helps build communities by supporting sustainable development and economic growth. Their website says they partner with real estate development companies, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations to make physical and social improvements in distressed communities around the world.

“We have a very diverse community and we have a lot of entrepreneurs, a lot of makers. A lot of small businesses,” said District Manager of Community Board 4, Celestina León during a phone call with Bushwick Daily during the previous Bushwick event. “And given the demographics of Bushwick, it makes sense to support this community [minority and women] in particular because they’re here.”
