Happy Sturgeon Full Moon, my Bushwick peeps! Maybe you’re asking, “What the hell is a sturgeon,” and “Should I be scared of all the celestial forces in play today?” And I’m glad you asked because nothing brings yours truly—a solitary witch, angel worshipper, and astrology hobbyist—more joy than explaining what the hell is going on on the skies. (Plus I have the best Bushwick events for the week, so scroll down!)

Sturgeon, dear friends, is a fish and apparently many Native American tribes knew that this time of the year is the best to catch loads of it. Funny, right, how even fish can’t help but surrender when it comes to the influences of the full moon?

Tonight’s full moon comes with a partial lunar eclipse. We can’t really see the eclipse from Bushwick, but still it’s a good idea to have your crystals, drinking water, and essential oils bathe in the moonlight. Naturally, a full moon can be intense, so don’t make any important decisions today about anything; just surrender, and watch how anything you focus on grows right in front of your eyes. That being said, try to focus on positive stuff!

I feel like I’m obligated to tell you that Mercury goes retrograde this Saturday. Don’t freak out, it’s nothing as terrible as the mainstream media would like you to believe. Just focus on reviewing the old stuff: have that conversation with a friend, finish that novel/poem/painting, take that bath (if you have bathtub ha!), and meditate daily. The time is now.

Here are the coolest—in my humble opinion—Bushwick events of the week. If you want more, head directly to our Events Calendar and go crazy! (But not too crazy, with the full moon and all.)

MONDAY: H.I.P. Lit Summer Series Finale @ Nowadays

7-9 p.m., Nowadays, 56-6 Cooper Ave., Ridgewood, FREE

One of the nicest summer events, according to Bushwick Daily staff, H.I.P Lit’s summer reading series comes to an end at Ridgewood’s beloved outdoor bar, Nowadays. Hopefully it won’t rain so that you can see Hala Alyan, Tara Isabella Burton, Jessie Chaffee, Victor P Corona, Melissa Febos, and Courtney Maum in action. Additionally, WORD Brooklyn will be there, selling the readers’ books.

Tuesday: Surfer Blood @ Cape House

7-11:30 p.m., Cape House, 2 Knickerbocker Ave., East Williamsburg

If you’re at all like me and nostalgic for 2010 when indie bands sounded the indiest, and dirty music venues were the dirtiest, you’re gonna love the fact that Surfer Blood plays Cape House on Tuesday night.

Tuesday: Sofar Sounds x Rooftop in Bushwick

8-11 p.m., Secret Rooftop in Bushwick, $15

Tuesday is shaping up to be a really good music day. If you like a touch of mystery, apply to attend a secret rooftop concert organized by the coolest collective, Sofar Sounds. The musicians as well as the venue remain a secret until the last step.

Thursday: Female Frequency Workshop: Psychic Twin @ 100 Bogart

7-10 p.m., 100 Bogart, 100 Bogart St., East Williamsburg

If you’re a Bushwick Daily newsletter subscriber you know that a huge office & creative building, 100 Bogart, is opening this week. They’re launching with a bunch of cool events, among them is Female Frequency workshop with Psychic Twin. The workshop will discuss topics such as arranging music for a live show & in the recording studio, live looping and more.

Friday: RB Bushwick Night Market

6-10 p.m., 434 Troutman St., Bushwick

If you’re like us at Bushwick Daily, you like to do your grocery shopping under the veil of night with a touch of a party with your neighbors and farmers. Swing by the night market on Troutman Street between St. Nicholas and Wyckoff avenues every Friday night!

Saturday: Ambient Music for String Bass Record Release & Sound Healing

8-10 p.m., Daya Yoga, 360 Jefferson St., Bushwick, $10 donation

Quite frankly, we’re intrigued by what Daya Yoga is up to, and the idea of making your boring old yoga class a lot more experiential is appealing to us! This Friday, join them for a guided beginner-level yoga practice followed by a sound healing concert performed live on three amplified string basses. Ommm!

Sunday: Doggy Pool Party Fundraiser @ Norwind’s

2-6 p.m., Norwind’s, 1043 Flushing Ave., East Williamsburg

Photo: Jakob Dalbjörn/Unsplash

This whole doggy splash plus human beer extravaganza is organized as a collab with Bushwick Bark and Norwind’s, and it has one goal: to support Sugar Mutts Rescue. So take your pup to a pool and yourself to a watering hole. It’s for a great cause!
