This weekend only, don’t miss the opportunity to see some fresh works by the phenomenal Brooklyn Collage Collective (BCC), which has previously shown at Armature Art Space, Brooklyn Fire Proof and Bushwick Open Studios, at Bushwick institution Schema Projects. Opening Thursday, Lorum Ipsum is a special limited-engagement group exhibition featuring select BCC artists. Hosted by Schema Projects and curated by burgeoning curatorial talent Kara Brooks, Lorum Ipsum takes its name from the Latin text commonly used in publishing and graphic design as placeholder copy—a nonsensical grouping of words that, while recognizable, is ultimately transient and exists to be replaced by other content. Designed to be decontextualized, cut-up and reconfigured, the words of ‘lorum ipsum’ operate similarly to the elements of collage employed by the artists in the exhibition.

Beyond the formal strategies of collage, Lorum Ipsum is also driven by collaboration. In the collage-esque spirit of bringing different pieces together, Brooks, Lizzie Gill, the BCC and Schema Projects have joined forces to produce this exhibition and to showcase the depth and variety of the medium. Participating artists in Lorum Ipsum include Lizzie Gill, Claire Lachow, Morgan Lappin, Jon Legere, Miguel Libarnes, Kieran Madden, Elise Margolis, Jay Riggio, Jacqueline Silberbush and Richard Vergez.

Lorum Ipsum opens on Thursday, October 30, with a reception from 6-9pm. The exhibition will continue through November 2 at Schema Projects, located at 92 St. Nicholas Ave.
