Bushwick TED Talk enthusiasts have a fantastic event to look forward to: on Thursday, October 27, the neighborhood’s TEDx chapter will gather to tackle the complex issue of gender equality and to livestream 2016’s TEDWomen conference.
The evening, which kicks off at 7 p.m. at Troutman Street’s Lot45, will start with the screening of several talks, including commentary by Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi, the three women responsible for the powerful, highly visible Black Lives Matter movement, and Kimberlé Crenshaw, the woman who coined the now-ubiquitous term “intersectionality.”
Bushwick Film Festival founder Kweighbaye Kotee will moderate the evening, and the screenings will be followed by group discussions of the subject matter and a workshop on gender equality, which organizers hope will delve “into practical solutions to empower the intersectionality of women in our daily lives.”
The event will come to a close after some closing remarks and a networking session. Tickets are $10 and are available here.
Enjoy, Bushwick!
