Trying to find ways to keep warm this weekend? How ’bout hitting up some sweet shows and having a really hard time choosing which ones? Will you try to squeeze in and finally see Macaulay Culkin’s Pizza themed Velvet Underground cover band (The Pizza Underground) for free on Friday? Or perhaps you wanna get sweaty at a fun DIY way space where you can dance and finally shed your thousands of layers. Either way, we’re providing 10 shows where you can strip off those layers.

#10 Andrew Cedermark, Tape Deck Mountain, Tiger Dare @ Glasslands (FRI 8PM, $10)

Andrew Cedermark shares the same label as some awesome bands like Airwaves and Family Portraits. He will be headlining this Friday at Glasslands, performing his melodic and inspired tunes that feature horns and intricate guitar stylings, presenting a sound that could be described as a moodier Matthew Houck (Phosphorescent). The atmosphere is always fun and if their stage art still looks like E-Cigarettes, it should be fun imagining you are smoking them passionately while nodding your head with the music.

#9 French Horn Rebellion, The Pizza Underground, Rush Midnight, Seasick Mama, and Heavenly Beat @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar (FRI 6PM, FREE)

Did you show up to Baby’s Alright too late the last time and miss the free pizza and the ridiculousness of The Pizza Underground? Don’t worry, if you get there early enough this time, you can see them for free amongst the warmth of crafts and mini-golf.  AND that’s not all, they are opening with several other great bands for French Horn Rebellion, whose dance-inspiring, summery sounds will bring you back to the days of dancing to Cut Copy in your underpants.

#8 Heliotropes, Clouder, Backwords, The Meaning of Life @ Radio Bushwick (SAT 8PM, $7)

Radio Bushwick has teamed up with Supercrush studio and My Social List to present a series of affordable shows starting with this Saturday’s lineup. Get ready for a rowdy, energetic and slightly psychedelic sets by all Brooklyn-based musicians that will definitely make you sweat. Not conviced? #7 Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene, White Hinterland @ Mercury Lounge (FRI 7PM, $15)



If you were wondering what Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene is up to, he is playing Mercury Lounge in Manhattan this Friday with whimsical and eerie dream-pop duo White Hinterland. Though the venture is a little further than Brooklyn, the trip is surely going to be worth it to see the Canning perform some of his solo music. tropics.

#6 Shana Falana, Sandy @ Cobra Club (SAT 9PM, $5 suggested donation)

Atrocity Exhibition series brings yet another great show to Cobra Club this Saturday. The music seems like it will be super relaxed and cozy at Cobra Club on Saturday with two bands for a suggested donation of $5. Brooklyn-based Shana Falana’s dark tones, stunning vocals and use of string instruments are not to be missed.

#5 Palehound, Dead Wives, Flagland, ADVAETA @ Shea Stadium (SUN 8PM, $8)



This Sunday, come check out Palehound, who made a big splash at CMJ this past October and then released their EP Bent Nail via Exploding in Sound. They will be accompanied by a series of rad bands including Brooklyn’s own ADVAETA and Flagland, who are sure to rock the stage and keep you good and warm.

#4 Brother Tiger, Psychic Twin @ Cameo Gallery (SAT 8PM, $10 adv/$12 door)

A couple years ago a band called Headlights popped up with a tune in a car commercial and songs that bellowed of country living combined with bustling emotions and then slowly dispersed. Psychic Twin is a survivor of those ruins, with frontwoman Erin Fein paving the way with airy vocals and heaps of reverb. They are definitely worth check out this Saturday at Cameo gallery along with Brother Tiger.

#3 North Highlands, Arms, Black Girls, Fasano @ Death By Audio (FRI 8PM, $10)



Friday is gonna be a hard night to choose shows, as this enticing lineup at Death By Audio battles the other Friday night options pretty evenly. From North Highlands‘ exciting stylized female vocals and jangly guitar parts to Black Girls’ hip-shaking dance-style the audience will surely be able to beat the coldness of winter.

 #2 Hippy, The Hairs, Dead Painters, Rad Dreams @ Muchmore’s (SAT 8PM, $5)



One way to keep moving on Saturday night is to head to Muchmore’s, where they have a strange sake-style booze you can mix with soda and bob your head to the ’90s-inspired tunes of Hippy. Their bill also features The Hairs, whose Bandcamp “about” section claims their sound is like, “Woody Allen meets Syd Barrett”–which seems like something everyone needs to hear.

#1 Bird Courage, And the Kids, The Flies, CatFox @ Silent Barn (FRI 9PM, $8)

Get ready for a blast of wild Western Mass/Brooklyn energy. Brooklyn’s own Bird Courage is playing this amazing bill with And the Kids, a thrillingly eccentric yet melodic three-piece involving glitter facepaint, howls, and glockenspiel. This show is definitely worth popping your heads out of the cold on Friday night to get a glimpse of some warming music and inspiring artists.
