Welcome to another edition of Top Music Shows of the Weekend! Rest easy as our list of concerts for the weekend releases your mind into a blissful state. We’ll massage the word “twerk” right out of your vocabulary. We all know that was so 2013 anyway. But what’s not 2013? All these brand spanking new shows! Read on for our top 8 including….

8. Chris & Cosey @ Radio Bushwick (SUN 10PM, $20)


This secret show just popped up and you should get on it! Chris & Cosey (formerly of cult industrial group Throbbing Gristle) will offer a rare “techno-noir” set at 10 pm. First come first serve, so line up early if you’re a big fan. The hyped show follows the band’s sold out performance at Santos Party House!

7. Zevious, Eula, Mount Gomery and Beasty @ Radio Bushwick (FRI 8PM, $8)

All right. So you left college. You had your fair share of sex, drugs and microwave burritos. But what if your experimental side still yearns for more? Well the newly opened Radio Bushwick is throwing down an art-rock platter for all you starving kids to consume.

6. Mac DeMarco, Delicate Steve and Hunters @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar (FRI 6PM, Free)

Float down to Brooklyn Night Bazaar to hear Mac DeMarco this Friday. He’ll serenade the soul right out of your solar plexus. Opening sets by multi-instrumentalist Delicate Steve and garage-duo Hunters. And did we mention it’s free?



5. 5th Annual New Year’s Do-Over Party featuring The Love Supreme @ Cheap Storage (SAT 9PM, $6)

In case you spent New Year’s Eve crying on a couch when the ball dropped or puking in a crowd (we’re looking at you, Steve), Glad Tidings is throwing a do-over party this Saturday. Come countdown to midnight and celebrate the release of The Love Supreme’s new 7-inch, I Want You.

4) Benefit for the Philippines featuring VERSUS, pow wow! And more @ Shea Stadium (SAT 7PM, $10)

Sure, we all say we support charities. Well now it’s time to put your money where your mouth is! Come out to Shea Stadium for the Benefit for the Philippines. All proceeds go to the American Red Cross Typhoon Relief Effort. Plus you’ll get to listen to some killer tunes by VERSUS and pow wow!

 

3. Krill, Palehound @ Silent Barn (SAT 7PM, $8)

Krill and Palehound are two alt-rock acts aching to put an introspective look on your face. A must see if you’re a fan of music from the Built to Spill and Pavement camps.

2. The Echo Friendly @ Coco 66 (SAT 9PM, $5)

The duo, whose heartwrenching single, “Panic”  we premiered on our Friday First column a few weeks back, kick off their residency this weekend at Coco 66 in Greenpoint. It’s worth the five bucks to see this on-again-off-again couple trade verses and harmonize chorus lines. 1. Ancient Sky, Heaven’s Jail and 1-800-BAND @ Union Pool (SUN 9PM, $8)

Local psych-rock act Ancient Sky spiking the punchbowl. Rock acts Heaven’s Jail and 1-800-BAND opening.Union Pool is a fantastic place to see shows, and with the warmish weather returning, you can even enjoy its outdoor space, fountain, and taco truck!
