Bushwick's Amaranto is Serving Up Authentic Mexican Cuisine With a Delicious Modern Twist

Bushwick's Amaranto might be tucked away behind Maria Hernandez Park, but the Mexican restaurant is serving up food that is impossible to ignore.

Bushwick is not lacking in extraordinary food options. But Amaranto has to be at the top of the list for its authentic Mexican cuisine, masterfully crafted cocktails, and delicious desserts.

Amaranto is large enough to accommodate the constant flow of hungry Brooklynites. I passed the eatery on a Friday evening once, and there was a line of margarita-seeking patrons overflowing onto the sidewalk; and after actually having a meal at Amaranto, I understand why.

Amaranto's cocktail list has options that range from classic Mexican staples (Sangria, Margaritas, etc.) to inventive and refreshing drinks, mostly infused with pineapples and strawberries.

As far as appetizers go, the chefs at Amaranto have made a local name for themselves in the guacamole game. Their spicy guac and homemade chips are enough to make a meal for the inexperienced eater, but why would anyone stop there with so many other delicious appetizer options like crab meat tostadas, baby scallops ceviche and chorizo memelita? They're all to die for, by the way.

Chicken Adobado.Poblano rajas, fresh corn, green squash and wild rice

Amaranto's entrees maybe look like classic Mexican fare on paper, but the food's presentation is anything but conventional. Classic dishes like chicken enchiladas with mole poblano are served garnished with pickled onions and arranged in a way that looks almost too pretty to eat. Almost.

Though in my Amaranto experience I was too painfully full to get to dessert. With options like chocolate flan and tres leches, I will definitely be going back to redeem myself.

Amaranto is in Bushwick at 887 Hart Street. If you haven't gone already, definitely reserve a table today!
