Summertime has kicked off! Yaaaay. For many of us, this is a time where we start really thinking about our fitness. Whether it’s because we’ll be doing more recreational activities, or romping around the beach–summer’s a great time to start shaping up.

For many people, the hard thing about fitness is finding the time. For others, it’s not knowing where to start or not being able to afford a year’s commitment to a gym. For some, it’s feeling stuck in a crowded, stinky fitness center, fighting over machines when you could be outside enjoying a margarita. Human@Ease, an unusual fitness center in Greenpoint is the perfect place to help you past all of these setbacks, and make you a better you.

Last week, the owner of Human@Ease, Dishan Elise, invited me to try out her trademarked Introversion Training method. I couldn’t say no to someone kicking my booty into shape for the summer, but was so surprised at what I found when I was there.

The center is beautiful! You really feel like you’re more in a spa than a fitness center. There’s definitely a zen-like quality, which calms your workout. It’s weird to be at a fitness center you want to hang out in.

Also very important, Machito, a giant Pomeranian with some serious fluff, is there to greet you and makes for a perfect Instagram opportunity. He’s very friendly and even does yoga poses on command!

After telling me about some of the amazing programs they offer, Dishan began my workout. She explained that during my regular work outs I wasn’t working my muscles to their maximum capacity, and I could actually do a lot more in a lot less time. Already I was improving my regime!

She walked me through various different machines, setting some of them to 120 lbs, which was crazy, because I usually only lift 50 lbs. I didn’t think I could do it, but it turned out I could. All the while she encouraged me, letting me know I was capable.

With each weight she had me lift slowly for about two minutes straight without resting rather than doing sets. This ensured I was pushing myself the absolute hardest.

At first, each weight felt fine. “I can totally do this!” I told myself. But after the first minute. It really started getting hard. And every time I was about to give up, Dishan would say “You can do this, you’re just telling yourself you can’t.” And she was right, but it was a hard wall to bust through.

In just 35 minutes I did more of a workout than I ever do on my own for over an hour. Dishan said with the right intensity I could actually see noticeable results doing this workout only once a week.

It was really hard to exhaust my body like that, and in the moment I wasn’t even sure how I’d make it home. But the next day I woke up feeling just sore enough, and even energized.

Human @ Ease also has various classes you can sign up for, or include in your membership. The B.E.S.T. plan they offer is an all inclusive and customizable plan, that includes massage, personal training, nutritional consultations, weekly group coaching sessions, unlimited yoga & fitness classes, and use of the infrared sauna. Anyone looking to get in shape this summer, this could be a great plan for you, because it’s month-to-month, so you’re not committed to anything longer than you need.

In case you’re already fit, and you just want to have a calm, peaceful place to improve your health, every service they offer can be bought separately, so you can enroll in sessions that are catered to what you need to make you a better you. I know one thing’s for sure… I’ll definitely be hitting up that sauna and donation based shiatsu after brunch!
