Now every day: Dine on Mominette's Delectable $1 Oysters, Bushwick

Mominette began offering dollar priced oysters this past August and Bushwick hasn't looked back since.

Previously Mominette had offered dollar priced oysters only on Mondays, but following an incredible turnout for Oyster Week in August, the local French bistro made the move to make every week oyster week!

With the exception of their brunch hours (Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.) Bushwick can dine decadently (with oysters) at Mominette, for prices unheard of.

“Especially for the West Coast oysters, you can’t get it anywhere for under $2,”Manager Eric Violin tells Bushwick Daily. “The Blue Point you can get anywhere for $1 happy hour, but the West Coast - no way.”

The refreshing backyard garden at Mominette is seriously angelic, and eating oysters in such a transcending, serene environment is achieving all of the goals you have (or didn't know you had). Squeeze lemon on them and use a fork or just eat them right from the shell - which is what Bushwick Daily did.

Pro tip: enjoy a glass of Mominette's offering of Chateau de la Jousseliniere's Perle Bleue for $8 a glass ($7 during happy hour: hello!).

Many people might not realize that the dollar priced oysters at Mominette are as exceptional in quality as they are: hailing from Long Island, Canada, Virginia, Washington, and Massachusetts, the oysters are brought to Mominette every three days on bed of ice. Bushwick Daily got a peek at behind the scenes, too, where clean and safe storage practices were implemented.

Violin revealed to Bushwick Daily that the reason Mominette is able to keep their oyster prices so low is genuine, revealing that “we don’t make any money on it.”

We got to try seven different kinds of oysters from the East and West Coast and recommend the East End oysters from Long Island the but in general, we loved all of them. West Coast oysters are typically sweeter with a more milky consistency and seaweed notes, while oysters from the East Coast are more salty and briny with more mineral notes - so depending on your palette, you might prefer one coast’s fare to the other.

It is quite possible, though, that you will love all of the oysters and come back every day for more, every day (because you can), so take a load off and dine at Mominette, Bushwick!
