“Don’t Dump On Us!”

That is an example of one the battle cries to be heard at tonight’s town meeting, which will discuss the legality of a garbage processing plant in North Brooklyn. The community group, Cleanup North Brooklyn, is asking that the Brooklyn Transfer LLC be closed after operating in the neighborhood illegally for years.

The group has met every two weeks since May, according to one of its members, Jen. Co-sponsored by with Transform Don’t Trash NYC, the group is hoping to shut down the North Brooklyn waste station for good.

“We are overburdened with handling the city’s waste,” says Jen. She also tells me that North Brooklyn currently has 15 of the 40 solid waste transfer stations in the city, while Manhattan has none. Go here to see the waste stations on the border of Bushwick and East Williamsburg.

Councilmember and chair of Sanitation Antonio Reynoso and assemblywoman Maritza Davila will be present, and everyone is invited to attend. The meeting will be held tonight, November 30, starting 7 pm at La Luz in Bushwick.
