Winter Solstice Feast to Showcase Local Food and Booze to Benefit Food Justice in Bushwick

The winter solstice is coming to Bushwick two days early this year

The winter solstice is coming to Bushwick two days early this year... Ok, so as those of you who didn't sleep through middle-school earth science know, this isn't possible. But the Winter Solstice Feast is taking place here two days ahead of the actual solstice, so we can pretend, can't we?

The Winter Solstice Feast is EcoStation:NY's annual end-of-the-year party and fundraiser to benefit its food-justice oriented projects in the Bushwick community. The feast returns tomorrow to LightSpace Studios, where it was held for the first time last year. This gala party is quintessentially 21st-century Brooklyn in all the best ways, revolving around a feast that this year will be provided by Bushwick farm-to-table stalwart Northeast Kingdom, tapas restaurant El Mio Cid, upstart Ethiopian favorite Bunna Cafe, and more. The bar will feature beer from Queens-based Singlecut Beersmiths as well as mouthwatering lineup of locally-crafted, artisanal spirits from distillers like Red Hook's Van Brunt Stillhouse. If local booze tends to get your hips shaking, never fear, for there will be music provided by electro-pop group Michi Kusa and a DJ who will keep the party going late into the evening. Other attractions include a fire dancer (!!), a raffle, and a "semi-silent auction" (we're curious to find out just what that means).

General admission tickets are $50, and entitle you to the feast and an unlimited beer and wine bar.  That may seem steep, but remember, this is a fundraiser--and from the sounds of it, it shouldn't be hard to recoup the value at the bar and buffet line. The proceeds of the event will benefit Bushwick Farmers' Market, Farm-In-The-Sky, Bushwick Campus Farm & Greenhouse, and the youth programs they support. A much pricier VIP ticket is also available, which comes with access to a special VIP pre-party featuring special cocktails and hors d'ouevres, full open bar throughout the evening, gift bags, and more.

EcoStation continues to grow five years after its founding, expanding this year with a youth-built rooftop farm at the new Mayday Space.

General admission to the feast begins Friday at 8:00 p.m. at Lightspace Studios (1115 Flushing Ave.). For tickets and more information, check out the Feast's website.
