Pretty soon you won’t have to travel all the way to Williamsburg (I don’t think Bedford Ave and I will ever get along) or Fort Greene to visit the Brooklyn Flea. Bushwick is getting its own outdoor flea market come this April!

The 5,000 sq ft vacant lot off Wyckoff and Willoughby Aves,  just a short walk from the Jefferson L train station, will soon become the home to nearly 50 vendors who will be selling vintage/retro items, artwork, handmade items, specialty foods, farmers market-type products,  and more.

“I’ve been a vendor at the Brooklyn Flea for several years now,” Bushwick Flea Market coordinator Rob explains, “Myself and a few other vendors decided it would be fun to start our own market and discussed how Bushwick would be a good neighborhood to do it in. We started looking around mostly at old warehouse spaces but then a realtor called and said he had a great vacant lot right on Wyckoff Ave, a block from the subway that would be available in the Spring, so we jumped on it.”

Rob describes that the market will be a “group effort” and they hope to be open weekends starting April 5th, from 10AM-6PM and later some warm summer nights. Rob, and the rest of the market coordinators, are hoping to turn a vacant lot into a cool experience, bring in a lot of people and add some retail to the immediate area “which it is sorely lacking.”
