If you pass by the warehouse on Mckibbin and White Streets one of these days, you'll notice a plethora of Citi Bike employees who are using it as their expansion office. Expansion? But to where?
Well, Citi Bike has announced its newest expansion in Brooklyn, which includes North Brooklyn neighborhoods of Greenpoint, Williamsburg and East Williamsburg, which will double the number of stations of the bike-sharing program by the end of 2017 from 6,000 to 12,000 bikes.
The new East Williamsburg stations will be available at:
- Montrose Ave & Bushwick Ave
- Humboldt St & Varet St
- Mckibbin St & Manhattan Ave
- Scholes St & Manhattan Ave
- Graham Ave & Grand Ave
Citi Bike rep told us that they are ecstatic to announce that they are in the process of doubling the size of the Citi Bike program. Starting later this year and going through 2017, they will unveil multiple locations for residents in our area. "This expansion will enable us to serve more New Yorkers, and to provide a great new form of transportation, which is especially important in neighborhoods that are not well-served by existing transit options," the rep told us.
Bushwick does not seem to be on the radar of this expansion just yet, which is both annoying and reassuring at the same time.
Only the time will tell if Citi Bike stands a chance in the neighborhood where a large amount of residents already own and use a bike pretty often as their primary transportation option in the summer months.
In any case, the first 30 minutes on Citi Bikes are free, so there's that.
