Fans of the horror and thriller genre will get an opportunity to see a local filmmaker’s take on the vampire movie this weekend at Syndicated. “The Transfiguration” originally premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in France last year and had another big festival showing at SXSW this past March.

The film tells the story of Milo (Eric Ruffin), a troubled teen who has an unsavory obsession with vampire lore. Things get a little dicey when he forms a friendship with another outcast, Sophie (Chloe Levin). Fantasy and reality blur to reach a thrilling conclusion.

Director Michael O’Shea is a Brooklyn native, and “The Transfiguration” is his first feature, which is pretty impressive considering the 84 percent it has on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film’s producer Susan Leber, whose previous credits include “Margin Call” and “Obvious Child” enjoyed the local aspects of the production. The film was shot in NYC, and even the lead actor lived in Bushwick while they were shooting in 2015. She adds, “I have to say it may seem like a small thing, but being able to walk to the facility [where post-production was happening] and have that support in our community meant a lot. Made it easier to focus and work.”

“The Transfiguration” will screen at Syndicated tonight at 8:45 p.m. and on Saturday at 9:15 p.m. Both screenings will include a Q & A with Lebber and O’Shea.
