Trans-Pecos will host a new, but already distinguished, literary magazine’s fundraiser on Sunday, October 16.

Journal Big Big Wednesday has already published luminaries such as Lydia Davis, Ben Lerner, Mary Ruefle, and Sven Birkerts.

Their first issue was produced with a crowdfunding effort, and they are looking to continue that success as they build a print home for the literary and visual arts.

Founding Editor Liza Birnbaum tells Bushwick Daily that “We rely on a combination of sales, grant funding, and individual donations, and we’re hoping this event will both be a source of financial support and a way of further promoting the journal and the work of our amazing contributors.”

Literary magazines showcase some of the most cutting-edge work by contemporary writers, but they struggle to make ends meet; that’s why fundraisers are so important.

Tickets for the fundraiser are 10 dollars, though attendees can contribute more or buy past issues at the event to show support.

Birnbaum adds that the editors “strive to pay contributors a stipend, and fundraising is a way of trying to keep that feasible!”

Entertainment throughout the night will feature both local musicians and writers for a truly eclectic night.

Frankie Cosmos and Mega Bog will lend their talents to the already-packed slate of readers featuring Leslie Alison, Greg Jackson, and Haley Rene Thompson.

Tickets can be purchased in advance, and the event starts at Trans-Pecos at 8 p.m.
