Four Approaching Fests Will All Celebrate Bushwick's Zinesters

The next three weekends are a zine enthusiast's paradise as North Brooklyn becomes the home of multiple festivals dedicated to the DIY art form.

Hot on the heels of the Bushwick Art Book Fair come four events sure to highlight the great work of the DIY artists and writers part of the local zine scene. Not since the last Brooklyn Zine Fest in 2015, which featured over 150 local artists, writers, and publishers, have there been so many opportunities for you to discover your new favorite project.

This fest will be held in Bushwick's premiere metaphysical store and event space from 1 until 8pm this Saturday and will feature work by The Bushwick Review and Catherine Willett. Explore the weird art, comics, and zines and maybe return for a Tarot class or two.

This particular fest is a happy hour/pizza party for zine enthusiasts and a fundraiser for Suffragette City's second issue. Attendees will be able to enjoy their favorite slice and $4 beers from 4-7pm this Saturday, the 23rd, while browsing work from Suffragette City and Love THY SCENE, among others. Catch it after Catland!

Described as the longest running zine fest in NYC (at 6 years), Pete's boasts a long list of festival participants and also promises a fun, boozy atmosphere. There's nothing like getting a little tipsy and buying more books than you can carry.

This year, the fest takes place on Saturday, July 30th from 2-7pm.

Silent Barn's Paper Jam Zine Fest usually takes place in February and September, but this August 6th, they are co-sponsoring a unique event at the Dekalb Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. The memorial for writer and musician Travis Fristoe will coincide with a zine festival featuring The Troll Hole and Mayday Space. There will be a zine making workshop for children from 1-3pm with Rachel Hays, and readings from Travis Fristoe's work and an open mike right after. The event also coincides with a 110 zine donation to the library from Violet Fox, Matthew Moyer, and the Zine Pavilion.

There you have it. Three Saturdays of bookish fun in and around Bushwick! And mid-September, don't forget to pop in on the MoMA P.S. 1 Art Book Fair, which will feature lots of local zinesters.
