This is a public service announcement to the kind people of Bushwick: We are well into the month of May. How did this happen? Well, it rained and rained some more. It rained so much that you got your money’s worth out of your bodega umbrella and forgot the sun exists. Now that that flaming ball in the sky seems to be gracing us with its presence on the regular, take advantage: round up some friends and go see a show this weekend, and get ready for a killer time.

#10 The Spook School, Bent Shapes, The Regrets, Patio @ The Gateway, 1272 Broadway, Bed-Stuy (FRI, 8PM, $8)

Ipsum is filling all of your pop punk needs with this four-band lineup. Between The Spook School’s brand new release “Gone Home” and Bent Shapes’ fairly recent album “Wolves of Want,” there are lots of fresh songs to be heard. Be sure to grab some Braven beer on offer at the Gateway, too—they’re a Bushwick Daily favorite!

#9 PINKWASH, WALL, Heaven’s Gate, La Neve @ Silent Barn, 603 Bushwick Avenue, Bushwick (SAT, 8PM, $8)

These radical punk acts definitely encourage some headbanging—and at a venue like Silent Barn, you’ll be super close to all the action. PINKWASH’s “Collective Sigh” LP will have been released via Don Giovanni Records the day prior, so you know the group is ready to celebrate.

#8 FUTURE PUNX, Martin Bisi, Nuraxi, Piss Off @ Alphaville, 140 Wilson Ave. Bushwick (FRI, 8PM, $10)

Friday marks the tour kick-off for Future Punx! Wish the Brooklyn group well before they travel to the Midwest. Until then, enjoy their new music video for “How to Dance” and prepare yourself for devouring Alphaville’s famous ‘nugz.’

#7 PROM, The Undercover Dream Lovers, blasé, Nation of Language @ Trans-Pecos, 9-15 Wyckoff Avenue, Queens (THURS, 8PM, $8)

If you missed PROM at Music Hall of Williamsburg last week, don’t worry— here’s another chance to catch them! If you like Purity Ring and CHVRCHES, you’ll love these similar vibes at Trans-Pecos. It will be an evening full of synth-heavy, dream pop tunes from all bands involved.

#6 Rock n’ Shop: Tattoo Money, Stereobird, Trigger Shy, Juliannarchist @ The Paper Box, 17 Meadow St. East Williamsburg (SAT, 3PM, $FREE)

Live music, pop-up shops and plenty of eats and drinks. Apparently you can even get haircuts and piercings as well? So much room for activities! It would be pretty punk rock to get pierced while Trigger Shy is performing “Hellhole.” Bring your friends, support local artists and do something fun this Saturday afternoon.

#5 Becoming New Objects @ Queens Museum, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens (SAT, 7PM, $12)

Feeling adventurous this weekend? Come venture out to your neighborhood borough! The Queens International 2016 is a biannual exhibition highlighting Queens-based artists. This concert series is no exception – it’s presented by Trans-Pecos + the Queens Museum and is in collabs with Chillin Island!

#4 The End Of The Gigawatt @ Alphaville, 140 Wilson Avenue, Bushwick (SAT-SUN, 6PM, $10)

We are all very sad that 1.21 Gigawatts has announced their ‘farewell.’ However, they’re certainly going out with a bang – by holding a two-night, fourteen-band showcase this upcoming weekend. All door tickets will benefit 826NYC – a creative educational nonprofit. It’s $8 per night and only $10 for both nights! Help a cause, drink some beer and appreciate one of Brooklyn’s classic DIY magazines.

#3 Peach Kelli Pop, Fern Mayo, Flower Girl, Yucky Duster @ Palisades, 906 Broadway, Bed-Stuy (FRI, 8PM, $12)

Palisades is always a solid choice for Friday night fun. Even The New Yorker thinks so! Come hear Peach Kelli Pop channel ultimate girl-power, including their latest tracks from “Halloween Mask.” Attempt to grab a 7” while you’re there, they’re going fast!

#2 Brooklyn Flea Record Fair w/ Red Bull Music Academy @ 90 Kent Avenue, Williamsburg (SAT, 11AM, $FREE)

Get your fill of vinyl records, live music AND Smorgasburg eats this weekend. The Brooklyn Flea Record Fair is back again and this time with a 1-5PM DJ lineup, curated by the Red Bull Music Academy. Drink some beer and browse vinyls – Astro Nautico, True Panther Sounds and Young Turks will be amongst those present. See all the participating 50+ record labels, collectors and stores HERE.

#1 La Luz, Las Rosas, High Waisted @ Market Hotel, 1140 Myrtle Ave, Bushwick (THURS, 8PM, $15)

Market Hotel is at it again! Their lineups are always killer – start your weekend early and catch La Luz on their headlining tour. Expect surf rock, psychedelic jams and ever so scenic views of the JMZ Myrtle-Broadway trains rolling by.

La Luz

See you out there, Bushwick!
