Daylight Savings Is (Finally) Here: Our Top Music Shows This Week

Daylight Savings is upon us, readers. Ah, the feeling of the sky not being pitch-black at 5pm! Life is good.

Although we lost an hour, we gained sunlight, and thus, hopefully, we're all waking from winter hibernation—and weather has been fluctuating as dramatically as Kanye's daily commentary, which means everyone should be feeling the need to seize the beautiful spring weather. Bushwick is about to blossom, people! Ride a skateboard, drink on your roof with friends...and perhaps, oh, we don't know—go to a show, maybe?

Bushwick Daily has your spring evening needs covered with these great shows this weekend. Spring forward be glad the sun is here to stay.

#10 Turnip King, Shana Falana, Strange Mangers, Klozapin @ Palisades, 906 Broadway, Bushwick (Sat, 8PM, $7)

JMZers, look no further. Palisades presents a stacked lineup this weekend. Ranging in sound from dream pop to alt rock to shoegaze, there's something here for all indie enthusiasts. Plus for $7, you really can't go wrong.

#9 Purling Hiss (Solo), Foster Care and Tim Evans @ Alphaville, 140 Wilson Avenue, Bushwick (Fri, 8PM, $10)

Performing solo this time around, Mike Polizze of Purling Hiss will showcase fuzzed out pop songs that he self-recorded in his Philly bedroom. Listen to Something live! If you find that you really like the EP, you'll love this limited edition red vinyl.

#8 Murals, Idiot Glee, BBDDM and Nassau @ Silent Barn, 603 Bushwick Avenue, Bushwick (Fri, 8PM, $10)

CONTEST ALERT: Thanks to Fire Talk Records and Oh My Rockness, you can win tickets to catch Kentucky bands Murals and Idiot Glee at this show in the middle of their northeast tour. And if you don't win tickets, you may be able to spring for them anyway, since they're only $10— but hey, live a little!

#7 Infinity Girl, Notches, Oh Golly, Me In Capris, Big Eater @ The Gateway, 1272 Broadway, Bed-Stuy (Sat, 8PM, $5)

Have you checked out The Gateway yet? This fairly new venue off the Gates J stop has only been in business for about six months, but it routinely hosts solid lineups for no more than $5 or $10 per show. See Infinity Girl and explore a new space: multi-tasking at its finest.

#6 LEGS, Erica Eso, Gemma, Ziemba @ Secret Project Robot Art Experiment, 389 Melrose St. Bushwick (Sat, 9PM, $10)

The word 'experimental' comes to mind. Prepare to travel forward in time for some synth and modern pop, then back in time to enjoy some 80s' R&B and disco. In either era, be sure to bring along some dance moves.

#5 Speak Into My Good Eye Presents: Sky Picnic, BLK LLC, Phone Home and Lady @ The Gateway, 1272 Broadway, Bed-Stuy (Thurs, 8PM, $FREE)

How To Celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Bushwick: 1. Throw back some brews. 2. See a killer show. 3. Enjoy said killer show. Speak Into My Good Eye always manages to pull rad bands for their monthly showcases. This upcoming March showcase is "embracing all things fuzzy, psych and shoegaze." Did I mention it's FREE?!

#4 Christopher Owens (Formerly of Girls) @ Union Pool, 484 Union Avenue, Williamsburg (Fri & Sat, 8PM, $15)

Two Union Pool shows means two chances for you to possibly see Christopher Owens. Listen to Chrissybaby Forever live while noshing on tacos. According to Facebook, both Union Pool shows are nearly sold out, so get on this one!

#3 Dr. Dog and Hop Along @ Terminal 5, 610 W 56th St. Hell's Kitchen (Sat, 8PM, $30)

So this isn't exactly in Bushwick. But check it anyway, because it's likely to sell out and Dr. Dog is known for great live shows. If you've been waiting to see this band, I'd say this is an opportunity you won't want to miss out on.

#2 My Brightest Diamond @ BRIC House Ballroom, 647 Fulton Street, Fort Greene (Fri, 8PM, $29)

When was the last time you went to a seated show without going into Manhattan? It's good to mix it up sometimes, especially when BRIC's truly stunning performance space and this indie goddess are involved.

#1 Girls Names, LUSHES and Heaven's Gate @ Alphaville, 140 Wilson Avenue, Bushwick (Mon, 8PM, $12)

Can't make it to SXSW? Catch Girls Names fresh off their Brooklyn Vegan showcase in Austin. This Belfast based four-piece group hasn't played in the U.S. for more than three years, so you know they're ready to bring it.

See you on the scene, Bushwick!
