Jessica Langley’s laundry line isn’t just for hanging bed sheets.

The Ridgewood resident is using her backyard as a gallery space with The Stephen and George Laundry Line. “I think of it as a form of semi public, semi private art,” says Langley.

“By using the laundry line as a stage for a highly local display of public art, the Stephen and George Laundry Line attempts to highlight the voyeuristic aspect of living in a city. The shared backyard spaces in city blocks are sites for daily and accepted public displays of intimates accessed only by a string, but on the ground, they are more often forgotten, even forbidden places to the people who share it.”

Beginning November 8th, the last show of the season is Maria Britton‘s Spills, on view November 8 – December 2, 2015.  Britton, an artist based in Brooklyn and North Carolina, is known, coincidentally, for using used bed sheets in her art. With this medium, Britton “explores themes of comfort and horror, memory and forgetting, and transformation and habit.”
