nobsbos

Happy BOS, friends!

The best time of the year to be in Bushwick is virtually around the corner! The 8th annual festival called Bushwick Open Studios, an expression of the purest community spirit, joy and love for the neighborhood and the fantastic people who live here, is happening this weekend!

No BS BOS in print!

The entire town is in a festival frenzy, hanging art, tuning instruments, polishing windows, forks…and in the case of Bushwick Daily, well, we’re distributing 5,000 copies of our annual curated guide to all this awesomeness, titled (jokingly) No BS BOS.

Last night we received a bunch of boxes from our badass local printer The Print House, located at 538 Johnson Ave, and we have distributed approximately 50% of them to awesome Bushwick business who either supported the creation of this guide by buying an ad space in it, and/or who we simply love.

We will keep on distributing the guides throughout the festival, so keep your eye out for them! We have launched a mobile version too- it is accessible and totally responsive with any device.

Five Districts and a ton of cool shit to see

What to expect this year? Well, we took a look at ALL the art listings (which is almost 600 this year, WHOA!). The most amazing volunteer organization, Arts in Bushwick, who is directly responsible for keeping the entire BOS madness going, graciously provided us with early access to their database so that we could take our time when making a decision on what to list. We took a look at artists’ websites, gallery shows, etc. and we picked a few listings that we thought were the absolute bomb.

We divided the entire festival into five “districts” (yes, we might have drawn inspiration from the instant classic Hunger Games *wink*), and we focused primarily on artist studios and only-during-BOS pop up shows. This year we included food and drink options in each district so that you don’t have to think twice when you realize you’re running on low energy.

Also expect a guide to BOS after dark, which will help you navigate through the maze of parties and concerts, as well as a guide to outdoor BOS that pays homage to all the spectacular sculpture and rooftop shows, block parties and community garden initiatives.

Guys, after compiling this guide, we swear, this year’s BOS will be the most magical experience ever. Just get lost in the moment, do not hesitate to talk to strangers and share the love!
