I Break Horses bring a very European feel to the dark, snaking synth pop that’s taken off over the past couple years here in America. Like so many other Swedes (Miike Snow, Lykke Li, The Shout Out Louds) the members of I Break Horses bring a finesse to their genre that is both fresh  and confident. Each song on 2014’s light/dark masterpiece Chiaroscuro stands alone as a statement of their dark, cool, clean sound. Whether full of bopping synths, glitchy beats or heavy with fuzzed-out, reverb washed waves, singer Maria Lindén’s voice is barely within reach above all else, a soothing light floating above layers of sound. Paralleling Purity Ring on songs like “Disclosure,” Zola Jesus on “You Burn,” and Still Corners throughout, they’re fall in line with some of the USA’s most innovative electronic musicians. Watch the electrogaze band shimmer at Mercury Lounge on Thurs, or at our favorite new venue, Rough Trade this Friday night!
