It’s slightly chilly outside. Your bank account might be feeling a tad empty. And, worst of all, Daft Punk didn’t show up to The Colbert Report. But if you’re thinking there isn’t a lot going on this weekend, Bushwick, you’d be wrong. Just because Target’s Back-to-School commercials are on TV doesn’t mean that summer’s over. As August soldiers on, let’s take a look at some of the best shows (a lucky number seven, to be exact) in Bushwick and beyond. Keep reading for more on all this weekend’s happenings, including Summer Camp, Mind Rock and Roll, Mad Decent , and a LOT of free concerts including Titus Andronicus, Devin, and Glassjaw.

9. Titus Andronicus, Ducktails and Juan Wauters (of The Beets) @ Pier 84 (THU 6PM, FREE!)

Remember what we said about your bank account feeling empty? That’s where Pier 84 (just off 12th street and the Hudson), and its excellent summer events, come in handy! If you’re up for making the trek allllll the way over to Manhattan, you can catch Titus Andronicus, Ducktails, and Juan Wauters for the low, low price of totally free.

8. Mad Decent Block Party @ Williamsburg Park (SAT 1PM, SOLD OUT)

If you’re into twerking (and who isn’t?), you probably already know about Saturday’s Mad Decent Block Party, where headlining acts include Major Lazer, Matt & Kim, Dillon Francis, and Flosstradamus. The notoriously wild event is sold out, though, so if you didn’t nab a ticket, you’ll just have to practice that twerk somewhere else. Sorry.

7. MINKS Record Release Party @ Glasslands (FRI 8PM, $10)

MINKS are celebrating the release of their brand new sophomore record, Tide’s End, at Glasslands on Friday night. We’re really digging their latest single, the dreamy and enchanting “Margot.” And, we loved them even in their early days, way back when “Ophelia” was our jam. Come early for openers Spires (whom we just adore) and Green Eyes.

6. Devin, Hints, Doozies, & Les Savy Fav (DJs) @ Union Pool (SAT 2PM, $FREE!)

At Union Pool, they know that free music is the best kind of music. Head over for some daytime fun with garage rocker Devin, plus Hints, The Doozies, and some freshly-spun tunes via DJs Les Savy Fav, on Saturday. Get 2 for $5 cream ales, dance a little, babewatch in the crowd, and keep those hard-earned dollas in your pocket, right where they belong.

5. Glassjaw @ Music Hall of Williamsburg (FRI 7PM, $FREE WITH RSVP)

Even MORE free goodness! This time, it’s Music Hall of Williamsburg bringing the budget-friendly jams with Converse Rubber Tracks Live presents post-hardcore band Glassjaw, Balance and Composure, and World’s Fair on Friday night.

4. Gem Trails, Poppy Red, Classy Nude, Nicholas Nicholas @  Mallard Bohemian Lounge at 603 Bushwick Ave (FRI, 8 pm, $free)

This will be a free night of bedroom pop and hopefully bedroom eyes. Experience the raw beauty of Texas’ Poppy Red‘s melancholy pop followed by some serious talent from Brooklyn’s own Nicholas Nicholas, who will take you through the rainbow of lo-fi soft pop.

3. Hunx and His Punx, Chain & The Band @ 285 Kent (THU 8PM, $12/14)

Hunx and His Punx recently released a brand new record, Street Punk, which is completely awesome and brimming with bold, bad attitude. Bring your best punk rock snarl to 285 Kent on Thursday night for what’s sure to be a rollicking show with Chain and the Gang (whose jams we featured last week) and Juan Wauters (again!) with Carmelle.

2. Mind Body & Roll (Pop Up Roller Skating Rink, Health + Music Evnet) @ Brooklyn Fireproof (Saturday, 3 pm-3 am, free before 8 pm?)

This very special popup event at Brooklyn Fireproof is an all-ages, family friendly, house music, alternative health, pop up skating rink fiesta! If all of those things can work together anywhere in the world, it has to be here in Bushwick. Stop by and show your skills or get a skating lesson- roller skate rentals are $10 or bring your own, and you can boogie to some excellent DJs including Chris Patrick and more. There will also be all sorts of informational sessions, including talks on health and knowing your rights. WOWZA! More info here.

1. The Wild Honey Pie + Consequence of Sound Present Summer Camp @ Secret Location (sat, $FREE)

Not quite Brooklyn, per se, but Saturday’s Summer Camp, courtesy of The Wild Honey Pie and Consequence of Sound, should be amazing on several different levels (Bands! Swimming! Campfires! S’Mores!) If you were one of 100 super lucky “campers,” you’ll be catching performances from Belle Mare, Caveman, Widowspeak, and many more while soaking up the sun in upstate New York. See you there!
