So you’re not in the Hamptons? (Gif via Tumblr)

It is that point in the summer where the city gets as empty as it gets, with New Yorkers scampering out of the city in search of beachier air. Those of us sticking out the sticky summer in the city, shall be rewarded this week with some stellar art shows! (Sneak peak: It gets pretty graphic at Grace Exhibition Space, and there is some Bushwick Laundry in Chelsea!)

1. Climage Change: VestAndPage @ Grace Exhibition Space (FRI 9PM, $20 donation)

This Friday will be the last installment of Grace’s month long performance series, Climate Change. The last three weeks each brought something inventive, unique and exciting, and this week is sure to be no different. German artist Verena Stenke and Venetian artist, writer and curator Andrea Pagnes will perform under their alias VestAndPage in order to explore the fragility of the individual in its surroundings, especially focusing on the precariousness of the balance of this interaction. The pair will be the perfect culmination to an incredible month of performance at Grace Exhibition Space and across Brooklyn, and it is not to be missed!

2. Future Folk: Part 1 @ Brooklyn Fire Proof (FRI 6-9PM)

The first installment of a two part exhibition, Future Folk at Brooklyn Fire Proof will display the work from over twenty artists, all of which deal with the acceptance of the old while looking forward to the new, the untested, the untried. While many emerging artists work to continually push the boundaries into new territory, these artists realize the importance of looking backward while moving forward. Showcasing a variety of artistic forms and practices, the artists in Future Folk utilize both tried and true techniques, as well as push the limits of cutting edge technology. In the end, each of the artists beg the question: Is what we create going to last?

3. Bushwick Laundry Screening @ EAI (THU 6:30-9:30PM)

You may have seen the site specific installation of Henry G. Sanchez at a Bushwick laundromat during Bushwick Open Studios. If not, now is your chance to see his short video titled “Bushwick Laundry” in a much fancier environment, at EAI, Chelsea. Bushwick Laundry is a film about the usage of water in Bushwick. “By using the frame of the washing machine windows as the focal point, various perspectives of the neighborhood and its water sources provide a portal into our local community and its history,” writes the artist.

4. Yung Gutted, Show Me The Body, PVRE MATRIX, NORMALLY IMPORTANT @ Fitness Center for Arts & Tactics (THU 9PM, $5)

5. Pull My Hair @ The Living Gallery (FRI 7PM)

Pull My Hair is a seriously summer art group show. “There’s no rhyme or reason to this show, I just want everyone to see some sick art,” writes Nyssa Frank, the gallery owner. The opening will fluidly turn into a BBQ at the gallery’s awesome backyard. See ya there!
