Our dear little Pigeon town (or the land just east of it) is about to receive a massive treat: Cocorosie! The freak-folk musical sensation, who have garnished high praise throughout the past 10 years, are playing a rare one-off show at The PaperBox on May 10 as their only North American date before they embark on a long European tour.

Cocorosie pioneered the movement of experimental and electronic rock, utilizing samples, loops and lo-fi recording way before anyone in Brooklyn. Their sound has an element of horror to it, laden with off-key harmonies, creaky-door theatrics, and tinges of gothic, almost cartoon-like vocals, but also has an underlying honey-sweetness to its moody hooks and endearing lyrics. The balance of these sounds has earned the strange music of Cocorosie, who are sisters Bianca and Sierra Casady, a cult following. Their Spring/Summer tour comes as a celebration of their new record, Tales of Grass Widow, out May 28th. The new album is their fifth full-length and was produced by the band and Icelandic composer Valgeir Sigurðsson. The single from that record, “After the Afterlife,” comes with a beautiful video, below.

If you were lucky enough to snag tickets to their show at The PaperBox, which is now sold out, we hope you are as excited as we are to welcome a musical legend to the ‘hood and to the USA before they go off to Europe.
